What Is Your {Flavor}

The Flavor of a Theme

When I was in high school I had a friend who's mother decorated their ENTIRE home shabby chic. Do you know anyone who has a particular theme that they love? Most people have an idea in their head of how they would like their home to be decorate but a lot of the time people go with what is popular with society. I love a good theme and I think if you're brave enough to decorate with a theme, your home will be more comfortable for you. Shabby chic is one of the harder ways of decor. Everything is very light and airy in color. Blush, ivory, white, beige, tans, browns, etc. Distressed wood, antiques, and floral prints. Wicker furniture  mini chandeliers, and lace is a must. Do you dare?

Shabby Chic

Of all the themes, French Country is by far my favorite. Everything is so elegant with this theme. French country is a little old fashioned, classy, and bold. There aren't any clean lines! Everything is about accenting something, showing off, and being a little cozy. Eyebrows on the granite endging, glass upper cabinet doors, a set color scheme, and warmth!

My mother always tells me she loves contemporary, but specifically what kind of contemporary are you talking about? A classic conteporary is similar to a room at the Ritz. Very clean lines, neutral color scheme, no accents, nothing on the walls, and overall classy.  A modern contemporary is going to be more geometric, clean cut straight lines, black and white with pops of bold primary colors, and VERY plain and simple.

Modern Contemporary

You can always play it safe and stick with a good, clean, traditional design. Nothing too special, a nice cabinet, maybe a neutral wall with little accent, a neutral counter top, and one simple pop of color in each room. Some people THINK they want something traditional, when really they want something else.

Traditional

Something I always enjoy seeing is an uncommon theme! If you're feeling very brave and planning to remodel, go with a Mediterranean theme! This is something that can be limited to a room like a kitchen or carried throughout the home. Bold colors such as blues, oranges, and greens really make this theme POP. Arched doorways, wood beam accents, white walls, with lot's of flavor with accents. Incorporate tile, color, and elegant furniture! Another bold theme you can try is Zen. This Asian inspired theme is fun for a bathroom. Bamboo window coverings and bath mats, bold red accents, neutral paints and very modern contemporary in clean lines and sleek appeal.

Another contemporary theme that is popular is "arts and crafts". A lot of wood, clean lines, neutral colors, and always a pop of something unique. This particular bathroom has a unique pop of stone as a bathroom vanity back splash.

If you're wanting the ultimate retreat in your master bath, try going Spa or Rustic! I spa bathroom is very clean, contemporary, cool color scheme, and everything is easily accessible. (Towels, lotions, candles, etc.)
A Rustic theme is dark, warm, brown, lot's of wood, and lot's of stone/rock. Very cozy and very romantic!
