His & Hers

His Style Meets Her Taste!

When you decide to spend forever with that "special" someone... you also decide to spend forever with their "special" sense of home decor!

How do you make a gender neutral happy home, you ask?

EASY!

I promise.

But first-- what makes her space feminine.. and what makes his space so masculine? Obviously, you walk into a pink room and it screams woman... and dark leather couches and plain walls cries man.. but really what is it?

Meet: The Woman.

It's not always the obvious PINK that makes a room feminine. There are a lot of feminine touches that can make any room scream wife.

Exhibit A.

Sure the room is completely PINK.. but wait.. what else do you see?

WOMANLY TOUCHES~
Note: The use of one color yet different shades throughout the entire room. It doesn't matter if it's blue, pink, red or yellow -- no man would do this.
Now notice the chandelier -- a very womanly touch of room character.
Now take a look at the floral print pillows -- enough said.
Notice the sheer curtains -- femininity at it's finest!

**Now I am not going to say -- Note the fur on the bed. Because, this doesn't necessarily need to be categorized as feminine. In fact, a lot of men find a fur look cozy -- Think man cave. Now the pink instantly makes this room sing the praises of woman -- but a white fur can make it into the "new home" with your man EASILY! :)

Meet: The Man.

When I think man -- I think man cave, plaid furniture  leather, plain walls, and  dark woods. Your thought's might be different.. they might be the same. Let's just assume they are the same - No woman wants a plaid couch. No woman.

Exhibit B.

Now what do you see here?

MASCULINE TOUCHES~
Note the flowers on the table -- this is a small touch of decor (nice?) HOWEVER, no matter how many flower you put in this room - it is still going to be masculine! Why? Because of these reasons:
Plaid.
Dark Woods -- Accented by PLAID.
Plain walls.
Lack of color.
Plain windows -- without curtains or other coverings

A womanly touch to this room would be color!!!!

So how do you find happiness? Your man doesn't want to live in every little girls fairy tale . but you don't want to live in his man cave either. (Isn't that what the basement bedroom is for?)

Exhibit C.

Go with a more neutral color palette to create happiness. Some men can't do too much color. To add some sort of pop, maybe do a red accent pillow? Or a blue vase on the table?

Bring your feminine touches to the table by adding some much needed decor to the furniture, walls, and overall appearance of the room.

Bring some masculine touches with a neutral color palette, dark wood furnishings, and sleep appeal.

And bring that fur blanket, because.. why not?

{12} BEST Songs To Clean House To

Spring Cleaning!

The owners of THM Remodeling Services just purchased a new home and are preparing to begin their own dream home remodeling experience!

Has anyone else moved recently? You know that when you move, you really realize just how much stuff you really have! Not only do you begin to throw out the old and start envisioning the new... you also get into cleaning mode!

Even if you haven't moved recently, everyone can relate with the good old "cleaning mode" experience! Does anyone have a day of the week that has been designated "cleaning day"? At my house it is Sunday. We always stay home, clean, and usually finish the day with a big dinner.

When you get into cleaning mode, it's always easiest to have some sort of motivation.. or something to keep you going. For me, the easiest way to accomplish the most cleaning, laundry, and dishes, is to have some good uplifting music! So over the weekend I decided to start researching some good tunes that could help me stay motivated for my Sunday morning clean.

These have been voted some of the TOP housekeeping tunes to keep your fire burning and your mood uplifting!

Start your Sunday morning off right!
Sunday Morning - No Doubt

Now move on to the dishes!
It's Raining Men - Weather Girls

Now shake out those old dusty rugs!
Shake It Out - Florence & The Machine

Break out the Pledge and really have a good time!
Good Times - Chic

Ever stumble upon something that really isn't a pretty sight? This song will help you get through it!
Pretty Vegas - INXS

Disco Fan? Well here is something you will love to dance to while you vacuum the living room!
Heaven Must Have Sent You - Bonnie Pointer

Okay... Now that you've decided to stop vacuuming and dance for a minute.. here is just a fun dust n' dance tune!
Groove Is In The Heart - Deee-Lite

Now take a break - just to throw dinner in the crock pot (super woman!)
Man I Feel Like a Woman - Shania Twain

Better finish the vacuuming..
Hung Up - Madonna

Cleaning the bathrooms.. deserves a lot of RESPECT!
Respect - Aretha Franklin

Now throw a load of dark's in the wash!
Hey Ya - Andre 3000

And just because... sometimes you  just need to walk away.. and give it up until next weekend :)
Got to Give it Up - Marvin Gaye

{Hot} Pick of the Week!

Jail Turned Luxury Hotel?

The Hotel Het Arresthius is a very luxurious hotel in the Netherlands. Guests come from all over the world to experience a stay in this hotel! Why you ask? Because this popular travel destination was once a jail!

Most of the original architecture and jail feel was kept when renovating this building into a luxurious hotel! And this is one heck of an experience! Everything is 100% prison luxury! You will want them to lock you in and throw away the key!

The front of the building has been painted and spruced up for the most part. However, they left all the bars on the windows! By adding in a glass front door, they allow guests to know they are welcomed inside!

The hotel staff dresses the part as well! Even the cooks and bartenders wear black and white striped attire!

Most of the barred doors have been recreated to open freely to keep the jail environment but allow guests to move in and out of rooms and restaurants easily.

To create the TOTAL experience, they will occasionally put on a "dinner party" where everyone is required to dress in their best jail attire to be able to dine!

Giving a whole new meaning to "yard time" they have created a total outdoor luxurious retreat for the guests to really enjoy their stay!

Small touches have been left behind such as solitary confinement rooms turned bathroom stalls!

My personal favorite touch is the rooms! Welcome to your new luxurious cell! You may hope to get sentenced to life!

When staying at the Hotel Het Arresthius, you can choose from 4 suites.

The Director.

The Jailer.

The Judge.

And The Lawyer.

Hoping for something a little closer to home?

The Liberty Hotel

THE Liberty Hotel is located in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts. It used to be the "Charles Street Jail" but has been a luxurious hotel since reopened in 2007.  This unique destination is historical architecture morphed with luxury and modern day travel!

Most of the hotel has been completely remodeled and doesn't hold as many jail like features like the Hotel Het Arresthius, but it has still held on to a few small touches.

The hotel has a lot of bars and restaurants to choose from such as the "Clink." Bar, "Alibi", "The Yard", and "The Catwalk"

You can choose from a couple select packages such as "The Truth", "The Catwalk", and "The Pretty Woman" Happy Traveling!

Squeaky Clean!

Cleaning products are SO expensive these days! And half of them don't even do the trick!  Original Dawn dish soap, Vinegar, and Baking Soda COULD possibly be the only things you will EVER need to buy again! Wouldn't that be nice? A lot of these I have tried myself, and the results are amazing!

The Power of Dawn.
Dawn can do some of the most random, cool things!

Do you use a lot of product on your hair? Even just using hairspray, oils, or mousse's can build up on your hair. By washing your hair with dawn once a month (in place of your shampoo) you will strip all the gunk and grime from your locks leaving your hair shiny and new!

One drop of Dawn mixed with HOT water in a spray bottle will get rid of those pesky insects in your plants! Make sure you shake the bottle up well and then spray down all of your plants with the soapy suds!

Professional Housekeeping Companies say to mix 3 drops of dawn in with 1 gallon of water. Then add the mixture to a spray bottle and see the most sparkling windows on the block!

Pool problems? Spritz some Dawn into the middle of your pool... and wait! Everything will make it's way to the sides making it SUPER easy to clean out! PLUS it will make your pool SPARKLE!

If your dog has a flee problem, wash them with Dawn. BUT Veterinarians say to be VERY careful, don't use this as a replacement for your pup's shampoo. A dogs skin is so sensitive that Dawn will begin to dry out their skin over time.

Oily skin? Try to add a small dab of dawn to the T of your face and rinse with warm water!

ULTIMATE SHOWER & TUB CLEANER!! Take a spray bottle and fill it halfway with white vinegar. Heat in the microwave. Fill the rest of the way with blue Dawn. Put lid on and shake to mix well. Spray on your tub and shower walls. Allow to sit for a few minutes and rinse away. It will totally melt all the gunk, slime, sludge and other stuff that builds up including a bathtub ring.

Corn oil + Dawn = Oil & Paint remover off skin!

Scrub some Dawn into oil based stains before washing! Such as lipstick, motor oil, cooking oil, butter, grease, and some pen inks!

1 tsp Dawn, 1 tbs Alcohol, 1/2 Gallon HOT water ~ Pour over icy sidewalks and paths. Watch the ice melt away and it WON'T come back!

Shower Floors- Let Dawn sit on floor over night, scrub the grease and grime the next morning, be amazed.

Use Dawn and a sponge to clean kiddie pools in the summer - this will be just as effective as bleach without the sun damage afterwards!

What Is Your {Flavor}

The Flavor of a Theme

When I was in high school I had a friend who's mother decorated their ENTIRE home shabby chic. Do you know anyone who has a particular theme that they love? Most people have an idea in their head of how they would like their home to be decorate but a lot of the time people go with what is popular with society. I love a good theme and I think if you're brave enough to decorate with a theme, your home will be more comfortable for you. Shabby chic is one of the harder ways of decor. Everything is very light and airy in color. Blush, ivory, white, beige, tans, browns, etc. Distressed wood, antiques, and floral prints. Wicker furniture  mini chandeliers, and lace is a must. Do you dare?

Shabby Chic

Of all the themes, French Country is by far my favorite. Everything is so elegant with this theme. French country is a little old fashioned, classy, and bold. There aren't any clean lines! Everything is about accenting something, showing off, and being a little cozy. Eyebrows on the granite endging, glass upper cabinet doors, a set color scheme, and warmth!
French Country

My mother always tells me she loves contemporary, but specifically what kind of contemporary are you talking about? A classic conteporary is similar to a room at the Ritz. Very clean lines, neutral color scheme, no accents, nothing on the walls, and overall classy.  A modern contemporary is going to be more geometric, clean cut straight lines, black and white with pops of bold primary colors, and VERY plain and simple.

Classic Contemporary

Modern Contemporary

You can always play it safe and stick with a good, clean, traditional design. Nothing too special, a nice cabinet, maybe a neutral wall with little accent, a neutral counter top, and one simple pop of color in each room. Some people THINK they want something traditional, when really they want something else.

Traditional

Something I always enjoy seeing is an uncommon theme! If you're feeling very brave and planning to remodel, go with a Mediterranean theme! This is something that can be limited to a room like a kitchen or carried throughout the home. Bold colors such as blues, oranges, and greens really make this theme POP. Arched doorways, wood beam accents, white walls, with lot's of flavor with accents. Incorporate tile, color, and elegant furniture! Another bold theme you can try is Zen. This Asian inspired theme is fun for a bathroom. Bamboo window coverings and bath mats, bold red accents, neutral paints and very modern contemporary in clean lines and sleek appeal.

Zen

Another contemporary theme that is popular is "arts and crafts". A lot of wood, clean lines, neutral colors, and always a pop of something unique. This particular bathroom has a unique pop of stone as a bathroom vanity back splash.

Arts and Crafts

If you're wanting the ultimate retreat in your master bath, try going Spa or Rustic! I spa bathroom is very clean, contemporary, cool color scheme, and everything is easily accessible. (Towels, lotions, candles, etc.)
A Rustic theme is dark, warm, brown, lot's of wood, and lot's of stone/rock. Very cozy and very romantic!

Color My {Wedding} Happy

Here Comes The Bride!

I am planning myself a wedding that is going to be this summer! Is anyone else planning a wedding? Have you thought about your color scheme? As everyone may know, I love color! However, I have surprisingly decided to stay pretty neutral for my wedding day.

If you're thinking of planning your special day, here are some color options you just can't go wrong with!

Green & White
This dramatic, yet neutral color scheme is always a great go to theme! But like I always say, why do everything the same shade of white when you can deliberately mix in different shades? This is going to make the "boring" white turn dramatic and spectacular!

Reds
Why do a bouquet of red roses when you can do several hues of red!? Mix your bouquet and decor in all shades ranging from BRIGHT PINK to a luscious elegant purple. These colors are going to make your dress really POP!

Brights
Use a bright dramatic RED against a pop of plum to really accent a color like white or silver!

Blush & Ivory
My color combo for my up and coming special day! These colors are vintage, elegant, and feminine. If you are looking for a classy pretty combo, this is for you! My wedding theme will be "pearls & lace" so this color combo with accent the theme flawlessly!

Go Bold
Red and Pink is just about as BOLD as it gets! Mix and match hot pinks with a bold red rose to really make a statement!

Browns
Brown is so warm, elegant, and classy! Mix a brown with a silky ivory to really create the perfect romantic evening! Plus everyone will feel warm and comfortable the whole evening!

Lime + Black
Lime  Green is SO trendy right now! In fact, all neon's are! Mix a pop of lime green with a classy black to really create something different, fun, yet suave! Everyone will be so jealous of your bold color selection!

Something Blue
Looking for "Something Blue"? Why don't you adorn your whole wedding in blue! But why limit yourself to blue and brown or blue and white? Do blue OMBRE! All shades from navy to baby!

A Valentines Day Parfait.

ingredients

One 3.9oz. package of chocolate instant pudding
One 3.9oz. package of white chocolate instant pudding
4 cups of milk
red food coloring
1 container of whipped topping, defrosted
1 chocolate candy bar
pink or red sprinkles (optional)

directions

Prepare the chocolate pudding as directed with 2 cups of milk and put in the refrigerator to set. Pour 2 cups of milk in a second bowl to make the white chocolate pudding.  Before you dump the packet in the milk, stir in 6 drops of red food coloring to turn the milk pink.  Then add the white chocolate pudding mix and whisk together until blended.  Put in the refrigerator to set.  After about 5-10 minutes the pudding should be firm.

Take 1/3 of the chocolate pudding and put it into an empty bowl.  Do the same thing with the pink white chocolate pudding.  Mix into each of those smaller amounts 1/3 of the whipped topping.  You should now have 4 bowls: one with chocolate pudding, one with pink white chocolate pudding, one with chocolate pudding mixed with whipped topping, and one with pink white chocolate pudding mixed with white topping.
Layer the puddings into 4 wine glasses or serving dishes in any order you’d like.  Try to spread out and smooth out each layer with the back of  a spoon before adding the next layer. Finish with a dollop of cool whip, dividing the remaining 1/3 of the container among all 4 dessert cups..  Make chocolate curls by peeling the chocolate bar with a vegetable peeler and garnish the pudding cups with them.  Finish it off with some pink or red sugar sprinkles if you’d like!

(Serves 4, but you could probably stretch it beyond that especially if you used smaller serving dishes.)
See?  Super easy and aren’t they pretty?  I can’t wait for my daughter to see them.  She loves fancy desserts.
Here are a few more helpful tips:
  • When you’re dividing your puddings into thirds to scoop some out to mix with the whipped topping, take a knife and draw a peace sign in the pudding.  This will evenly divide the pudding up into thirds.  Then scoop out one triangle.
  • Keep a paper towel handy.  It’s hard to not smudge some of the pudding along the walls of the glass when you’re dropping in the layers. If you make a little smudge just wipe it clean with your paper towel.
  • You could easily adapt this to any holiday. Change the pink to green for St. Patty’s day, or just mix up a couple different pastel colors for Easter.
Enjoy!
